The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture participated in the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research’s (DA-BAR) 2nd National Agriculture and Fisheries Technology Exhibit (NAFTE) on June 4-6, 2024, at The Atrium, LimKetKai Center, Cagayan de Oro City, with this year’s theme, “Makabago at Angkop na Teknolohiya: Tulong sa Patuloy na Pag-unlad ng Magsasaka at Mangingisda para sa Bagong Pilipinas.”
Hon. Mark A. Villar, the Senate Committee Chair on Government Corporations and Public Enterprises and Banks, Financial Institutions, and Currencies, was the event’s keynote speaker. In his message, he is hopeful that the exhibit would be an eye-opener to everyone’s potential to contribute to something bigger, especially to farmers and fisherfolk.
Also gracing the event were Cagayan De Oro City’s Official Spokesperson Jann Gilmore Actub, representing Hon. Mayor Rolando A. Uy; DA Assistant Secretary Genevieve E. Velicaria-Guevarra, representing Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr.; DA Undersecretary for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Zamzamin L. Ampatuan; and DA-RFO X-Regional Executive Director Jose Apollo Y. Pacamalan.
This three-day event is intended to highlight the continuous advancements and innovations in the agriculture and fisheries (A&F) sector. The NAFTE serves as a pivotal platform for technology developers to showcase their products and services, fostering collaboration and exploring partnership opportunities. The exhibition also features a diverse range of A&F technologies and products supported by the Department of Agriculture, aiming to raise awareness of government efforts and initiatives to support and enhance the sector.
Forty-six (46) exhibitors from different State Universities and Colleges, Department of Agriculture Regional Field Offices, private institutions, non-government organization, international agencies, Provincial LGUs, and farmers and fisherfolks have participated in the activity. The CBSUA participated in the said event and showcased their developed research products, such as the Throat Spray with stingless bees propolis extract and the Unpolished Rice Bar with pork meat floss. These featured products were developed and innovated to address the pressing needs of food and nutrition security and pharmaceuticals.
