The College of Development Education (CDE) at the University recently held a two-day Target-Setting and Operational Planning event called “STEP UP: Sustaining Trend of Enhanced Plans toward University Productivity.” The event, held on March 9-10, 2023, at MikeLiz Integrated Farm, aimed to enhance the passing rate of the Department’s licensure examination results and align all activities with the College and University’s objectives.
The event also sought to reassess the priorities of both the College and the University as a whole, with faculty members challenged to pursue higher degrees to better serve stakeholders.
Dr. Jerome Buenviaje, the Dean of the College of Education at the University of the Philippines, was invited to be the keynote speaker at the event. In his speech, he stressed that education is the great equalizer in society and that its importance cannot be overstated. Dr. Buenviaje also shared insights on “pandemic gains,” discussing how educational institutions can adapt to the new reality of education by embracing change, both in structure and perspective.
Moreover, Dr. Buenviaje expressed his institution’s willingness to help CBSUA become a Center of Excellence in the Bicol region, in line with its mandate to replicate its success in different regions of the country.
The event featured several presentations, including University Targets in Instruction by Dr. Ana MiraΓ±a, Research by Dr. Ramona Isabel Ramirez, and Extension Services by Dr. Vladimir Foronda. There were also discussions on University Accomplishments vis-a-vis the 5-year Development Plan by Dr. Emerson Bergonio, and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) in the Curriculum by Dr. Philip Talay.
During the event, Dr. Raquel Reapor, the Dean of CDE, Ms. Karen Fajardo, the Laboratory High School Coordinator, and the presidents of the organizations of the College also presented their accomplishments.
The 2-day planning event ended with the creation of projects to improve the College’s academic experience for faculty and students. The initiatives were developed through collaboration, and are expected to enhance the institution’s performance and success.
