The Day 1 of the 2-day Training on Seed Certification and Field Inspection was held on June 29, 2023 at Christian Farmers Training Center, Ragay, Camarines Sur with Mr. Joel S. Balindan, faculty from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources – Department of Plant Science, served as a resource speaker.
Twenty-five participants attended from Barangay Tagbac, Ragay, Camarines Sur. The participants became more aware of the significance of seed certification and field inspection. This inspection is necessary to determine any contaminants in the seed andย remove off-types based on vegetative characteristics. It also assists the grower in spotting off-type unhealthy plants and the importance of removing them as soon as possible.
The training program focused on sustaining high agricultural quality standards. It is a vital stage in generating and distributing high-quality rice seeds. Certified seeds undergo extensive testing and examination to ensure genetic purity, viability, and absence of diseases and pollutants. Seed certification ensures farmers the quality and performance of the seeds they buy.
