The Biology Teachers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (BIOTA) Bicol Chapter kicked of their 11th Annual BIOTA-Bicol Chapter Convention and Scientific Sessions with the theme, “Creating a Mindful Generation: Biology Education with Mental Health Advocacy,” at the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture-Alvaro Rabina Hall on August 3, 2023.
This convention emphasizes the need to understand the mind as it affects behavior in the practice of Biology. Teachers, researchers, and practitioners in the field of Biology all over the region. Present also are the active BIOTA Board of Directors Bicol Chapter.
Dr. Melinda Pan, the President of BIOTA Bicol, opened the program through her welcome speech. Dr. Alberto Naperi, CBSUA President, imparted inspirational message. He commended the association for holding such convention and stressed on the importance of doing continued research in biology.
Dr. Maricar Prudente, the National BIOTA President, gave the lecture on Creating a Mindful Generation: Biology Education and Mental Health Advocacy, particularly focusing on designing a reflective action research. This was followed by a lecture on The Neurosciences: From Basics to Breakthroughs by Dr. Robert Joseph Sarmiento of the University of British Colombia-Vancouver General Hospital. Lastly, the third session was given by Mr. Efraem A. Janairo, MEd, LPT, RGC, CSASS from Colegio de San Juan de Letran Manila who discussed about Teachers’ Roles in Developing and Supporting the Mental Health and Socio-Emotional Learning (SEC) of Digital Natives.
After the plenary sessions, the three speakers welcomed questions from the participants.
The convention will continue its programme of activities on the second day, August 4, 2023.
