𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐀𝐋 𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐈𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐎𝐔𝐒 𝐏𝐄𝐎𝐏𝐋𝐄𝐒: 𝐀 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐘’𝐒 𝐉𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐄𝐘 𝐓𝐎𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐒 𝐎𝐑𝐀𝐋 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐓𝐇 𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐄

On October 5, 2023, a Dental Mission for Indigenous Peoples was conducted at Baao, Camarines Sur. This event helped Indigenous people with limited access to dental care in their municipality to improve IPs’ oral health. The mission provided dental check-ups, tooth extractions, and other services. The theme for this year’s mission was “Your smile is our mission.” The mission’s goal was to bring hope and brighter smiles to marginalized communities, and it was a resounding success.
The Dental Mission for IPs was initiated by Prof. Jesusa B. Taumatorgo, the CBSUA Regional Center for Indigenous Peoples‘ Director. Local Government Unit of Baao, Baao Municipal Health Office, Unciano College of Dentistry, Extension Services Division, and Alpha Phi Omega join forces in this community-led initiative. Most of the Dental Mission volunteers were APO members, together with Team Yoya, APO Iota Chapter, Team Pam, APO Bicol Administrative Region, and APO Delta Pi Chapter. The team members were all passionate about their work, and their dedication was evident in the quality of care they provided.
The Dental Mission for Indigenous Peoples aimed to improve the oral health of Indigenous people in the Bicol region who face significant challenges in accessing quality dental care. This mission is an excellent example of how a community-led initiative can make a real difference in people’s lives. By bringing hope and brighter smiles to these communities, the Dental Mission for Indigenous Peoples is paving the way for a healthier and happier future.
The Dental Mission for Indigenous Peoples was a great success, demonstrating the power of collaboration and community-led initiatives. The mission’s impact was felt by the patients who received dental care and the team members who worked together towards a common goal.
