CANR, ESD HOSTS SEMINAR ON PESTICIDE SAFETY AND MOA SIGNING WITH CROP PROTECTION ASSOCIATION OF THE PHILIPPINES Inc. (CPAP) AND FERTILIZERS AND PESTICIDES AUTHORITY (FPA)

On September 26, 2023, faculty from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources-Crop Protection Section, through the Extension Services Division, facilitated the Seminar on Pesticide Safety and MoA Signing between the University and Crop Protection Association of the Philippines and Fertilizers and Pesticides Authority at the Alvaro Rabina Hall, CBSUA, San Jose, Pili, Camarines Sur.

This seminar was conducted in response to the request of the Crop Protection Association of the Philippines Inc. (CPAP) to partner with CBSUA to promote awareness of various aspects of pesticide safety. The main objective of this activity was to partner with CPAP on the extension to provide appropriate and up-to-date information relative to the safe and judicious use of pesticides.

The partnership of the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA), the Crop Protection Association of the Philippines Inc. (CPAP) and the Fertilizers and Pesticides Authority (FPA) will take effect through Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed by Dr. Alberto N. Naperi (SUC President IV), Mr. Alfredo Gonzales (Executive Director, CPAP), Mr. Gabriel B. Atole (Regional Officer, FPA-RFU 5) and Dr. Vladimir R. Foronda (Director, Extension Services Division).

After the MoA,signing, the participants, which comprised of students, faculty, and farmers, learned more about the Properties of Pesticides and Principles in Resistance Management, Pesticide Handling, and Safety that were discussed by Dr. Luis Rey Velasco (Retired Professor 12 of UPLB) and Dr. Gil L. Magsino (University Researcher, UPLB) while the topics on the Roles and Initiatives of FPA-V on Pesticide Regulation and Natural Farming were discussed by Mr. Gabriel B. Atole (Regional Officer, FPA-RFU 5) and Mr. Francis Leo M. Loberanes (Instructor I, CBSUA)

In the afternoon, testimonials were shared by CPAP Scholars, and thesis support was awarded to the two (2) BSA entomology students, namely Jenlee O. Castroverde and Joshua Rivera.

This activity marked a significant step forward in spreading awareness of Crop Protection.
