Bringing to light the power of arts in promoting environmental protection causes, the College of Arts and Sciences, through its NURTURE (Nourishing University Resources Through HUman Reinforcement in Environmental Management) Adopt Estero Project, organized a seminar-workshop entitled, “Fusion of Arts and Nature: Role of Arts in Environment Preservation,” on February 27, 2024, at the CAS Lecture Hall.
The activity was participated in by the FACES Incorporation youth and mothers of Barangay San Jose, Pili, Camarines Sur. In a message, Dr. Gertrudis Gerlie C. Jaucian, Dean of CAS, expounded on how the many forms of art, in this case, visual arts, can spur a change in the way people do things for the environment for the better, such as the promotion of environmental protection and conservation.
CAS faculty members were the featured resource speakers for the seminar. Assoc. Prof. Marielito Almelor, introduced Arts Appreciation to the attendees. Asst. Prof. Ginalyn Sabroso discussed Environmental Art: Redesigning our Future. Meanwhile, Dr. Lourdes Nieva, shared about Rice Straw Handicraft Making.
The afternoon session began with the discussion on Principles and Elements of Design by Asst. Prof. Presbel Presto. Lastly, Asst. Prof. Ana Vera Hugo, also the activity’s chairperson, talked about the Basics of Painting and Poster Making.
As outputs for the activity, participants were grouped and were tasked to paint reflecting the theme for the activity. The paintings, once finished, will be part of the exhibit to be organized by CAS.
Seminar-workshops such as this which call for the involvement of the community, display the effort of the university to address various environmental concerns collectively.
