RAC shares knowledge, expertise on Stingless Beekeeping

 

Beekeeping has a great potential for livelihood not only in urban areas but to smallholder farmers and landless peasants. It creates awareness to people engaged in agroforestration, forest rehabilitation, environmental protection, crop production health and nutrition.
With CBSUA as the Regional Apiculture Center and its flagship program the stingless beekeeping, there is a need for the creation of Provisional Apiculture Centers in Bicol region.
CBSUA Regional Apiculture Center conducted sharing of its flagship program thru Training on Stingless Beekeeping Production and Enterprise on 17-18 March 2021.
This activity aimed to provide skills and knowledge on beekeeping as an important component in agricultural development particularly in its production.
The two-day training provided the necessary knowledge and skill on beekeeping. Former VPRI, Dr. Maria Dulce J. Mostoles served as Resource Speaker on the history of beekeeping in the Bicol region, Bee biology and Ethology, and Pollen and Nectar Sources of Bees and the Cultural Management of Stingless Bees. Basic manipulation techniques, Basic Handling of stingless bees and Plans for the establishment of the meliponary in their respective areas.
Participants of the said training were representatives from Camarines Norte State College (Labo Campus), that signified their interest to lead the beekeeping in the province, Sorsogon State College that needed to activate their bee farming and Partido State University that has shown interest in establishing the Provincial Apiculture Center.
There training was sponsored by RAC led by its Director, Dr. Lilia C. Pasiona.
