The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) facilitated a benchmarking activity by the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office V (DA RO V) on July 29, 2024, at the Quality Assurance Hub to capture CBSUA’s Environmental Management System (EMS) implementation under ISO 14001:2015.
Ms. Katrina G. Gepilano, ISO ViceโChairperson, provided an insightful overview of the day’s events, outlining the objectives and agenda. Ms. Rose Lynnor A. Matos, Administrative Officer V, introduced the CBSUA personnel, ensuring all participants were well-acquainted with the university representatives. This was followed by DA’s ISO Facilitator/Supervising Agriculturist, Dr. Maria Christina F. Campita’s presentation of the DA RO V ISO Team, highlighting the cooperative spirit of the event.
Engr. Sheryl Miradora, Pollution Control Officer, presented a comprehensive list of EMS requirements, offering detailed insights into the essential components for effective EMS implementation. Ms. Rowena R. Manaog, the Document Controller, led an informative session on EMS documentation, emphasizing the importance of meticulous record-keeping and documentation practices.
Best practices within CBSUA were showcased through enlightening presentations by Asst. Prof. Sheryl San Andres, CRC Director, and Engr. Dino Jose Relativo, PPDS Director. Afterwards, Mr. Eduardo Morada, Jr. and Ms. Katherine Arga, the Pollution Control Officers of Pasacao and Calabanga Campus, respectively, shared valuable insights into CBSUA’s EMS experience as they were also internal auditors for QMS and EMS.
An open forum took place, allowing participants to engage in dynamic discussions, ask pertinent questions, and share their perspectives. The event concluded with a closing message from Dr. Rolando P. Oloteo, Director of the Quality Assurance office, summarizing the day’s discussions and reinforcing the collaborative effort towards achieving ISO 14001:2015 alignment.
This benchmarking activity aimed to share best practices, discuss challenges encountered and lessons learned and provide recommendations for aligning the DA’s EMS with ISO 14001:2015 requirements.
