The College of Development Education and College of Arts and Sciences, in partnership with the Regional Center for Indigenous Peoples, conducted the extension activity titled Likha Year 1: Exhibition and Lecture on Philippine Indigenous Creative Crafts on December 12-15, 2022 at the Ladawan Center.
This activity aimed to promote, conserve and sustain local crafts and ancient culture of Filipino community and in the world through the one-week cultural activities for high school students. The students taking Araling Panlipunan and MAPEH were welcomed during the Opening Ceremony held on December 12, 2022. Dr. Raquel M. Reapor, Dean of the College of Development Education and Dr. Lourdes S. Bascuna, Chairperson of Humanities Department gave their inspirational messages. Dr. Jesusa Taumatorgo, the Regional Director of Indigenous Peoples Center, likewise welcomed the participants in the Ladawan Center.
Students who visited the exhibit learned through lectures and displays featureing weaving, basketry, pottery, carving, and jewelry making. Meanwhile, cultural presentations were given by BS Food Tech second year students taking Philippine Indigenous Communities. The activity was spearheaded by Dr. Cherry Love B. Montales, CDE faculty; Prof. Ana Vera V. Hugo, CAS faculty, and the Bachelor of Secondary Education majors in English, Science, Filipino, and Mathematics; and Elementary Education students taking GEC 12-Philippine Indigenous Creative Crafts, an elective course for future educators.
