Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) celebrated a historic achievement as it made its inaugural submission to the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) 2024 and secured impressive rankings across multiple categories. This milestone marked a significant leap in CBSUA’s journey towards global recognition for its innovative programs and initiatives.
The CBSUA WURI 2024 Champions, led by Dr. Alberto N. Naperi, SUC President IV, spearheaded the university’s submission process, which began in November 2023. The task force comprised distinguished leaders including Dr. Emerson L. Bergonio, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Cherry Love B. Montales, IQA Assistant Director/IRO Director. Dr. Rolando P. Oloteo, QA Director; Atty. Dominador F. Faurillo, Vice President for Administration and Finance; Prof. Cesar Armando S. Camba, Sr., Vice President for Business and External Affairs; and Dr. Ramona Isabel S. Ramirez, Vice President for Research and Innovation; were also key figures in the task force.
CBSUA achieved notable positions in three key categories:
• 9th in Leadership (B1)
• 60th in Social Responsibility (A6)
• 66th in Student Support and Engagement (A1)

The program that led to the 66th rank in Student Support and Engagement, titled “CBSUA Agriville and Learning-Hub,” was directed by Jayson M. Dañas, Director of Technology Commercialization and Promotion Division. His team included Leizl G. Ayala, Nestor Jr. Gaurana, Francis Leo M. Loberanes, Dindy Deanne V. Orit, Janne Pearl Osea, Dr. Myra Luz M. Homillano and Mr. Celerino B. Llesol Jr.
In the Social Responsibility category, CBSUA’s program “LADAWAN (IMAGE): A Program for the Recognition, Protection, and Promotion of ‘AGTA’ (Indigenous Peoples) Rights in the Bicol Region, Philippines,” ranked 60th. This initiative was championed by Dr. Jesusa B. Taumatorgo, Director of the Regional Indigenous People’s Center.
The university’s leadership innovation, which secured the 9th rank, focused on empowering CBSUA’s leadership. This initiative was led by Atty. Dominador F. Faurillo, Vice President for Administration and Finance, along with Dr. Ilene B. Mirabeles, Mr. Erick T. Aguimatang, supported by technical staff, Mr. John Kelly Alpapara.
CBSUA’s other innovative programs also garnered attention, including the Promotion of Organic Agriculture with Meliponiculture/Stingless Bee Technology, led by Lilia Pasiona, Director of the Regional Apiculture Center, with her team Dr. Melchora V. Abonal, Lily John B. Casimiro, and Sheryl San Andres, supported by the technical team of Joy Abarientos, Alvir Bausa, and Janica Intia. Another notable initiative is the International Credit Transfer Program, headed by Dr. Emerson L. Bergonio, with his team Dr. Cherry Love B. Montales, Dr. Raquel M. Reapor, Dr. Amelia R. Nicolas, and Cristia Shiena A. Tubale. Additionally, CBSUA’s Acadrepreneurialization program, led by Dr. Emerson L. Bergonio, and Dr. Philip N. Talay, together and Rhener Bucad,.
The successful preparation and submission to WURI were the results of extensive consultations, orientations, meetings, workshops, and presentations coordinated by Dr. Cherry Love B. Montales, Assistant Director for International Quality Assurance with the top management, Research and Innovation Centers, Academic Affairs Cluster and Administration and Finance Cluster. This collaborative effort highlighted the university’s innovative spirit and dedication to global standards of excellence.
CBSUA’s debut in the WURI 2024 rankings is a testament to the university’s innovative approaches and commitment to social responsibility, leadership, and student engagement.
