The 1st Bicol Business Summit with the theme “Bridging Bicol: Synergy, Resilience, Onwards” was held on July 12, 2024, on the 4th floor of Doña Dolores Hall, Villa Caceres, Naga City which convenes the national government agencies, local government units, state universities and colleges, and business sectors to lay out plans for synergies for the economic development of the Bicol Region.
The event organized by the Camarines Sur Chamber of Commerce and Industries and cohosted by the other six (6) chambers in the region aims to bring business stakeholders into one direction of development by recognizing the whole of government approach and synergy on doing ease of business in the region. Notable topics shared were the Regional Development Plan 2023-2028 by OIC RD of NEDA Edna Cynthia S. Berces, DTI RD Dindo B. Nabol shared innovative ideas to elevate MSMEs empowering sustainable growth, and DA RD Rodel Tornilla, MABE an alumni of CBSUA shared reports on the regions agriculture status.
The afternoon session was also packed. Ease of Doing Business in the Philippines: From Red Tape to Red Carpet was elaborated by Dr. Karl Joseph Sanmocte the Regional Head for Southern Luzon, Anti-Red Tape Authority. His talk captured both the empowerment and implementation of ARTA. RD Rommel Serrano, CESO III shared Siyensyang Maasahan sa Kabicolan which highlights the role and support of DOST in doing business in the region. Digital Transformation for Bicol Economy was presented by RD Rachel Grabador of the DICT-V. Strengthening Local Economic Development through Balanced Growth and Opportunities at the localities was given light by the DILG RD Atty. Arnaldo Escober, Jr., CESO V. Last presentation was given by the BSP South Luzon Regional Office Head for Regional Economic Affairs Mr. Keith Eduard Hidalgo on BSP’s Programs and Projects for MSMEs.
CBSUA is represented by Engr. Krizyll Lumbo, Planning Officer III, Assistant Professor Sonny Corporal, Program Chair Agribusiness, and Dr. Philip Talay, Dean of the College of Economics and Management.
The university is a member of the Bridge Bicol Project which is one of the strategic arms of development in the region with members from the industry, LGU, and NGA.
