Instilling functional literacy to the young, the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture- Sipocot Campus, held a series of workshops for the learners of Casa Miani MRV Jr., Bolo Norte, Sipocot, Camarines Sur, on February 17, 24, and March 2, 2024.
The first of the workshop series taught the participants how to bake cookies. Ms. Christine Tias, BTLED Instructor, is the workshop master. Ms. Tias discussed the different types of cookies, sanitary practices and safety rules in baking, and tools and equipment in baking. She demonstrated the baking process of the cookies and let the learners do theirs too.
On March 24, the workshop focused on bread baking. Dr. Ana Maria Bonito led this activity. She began with a lecture on the different kinds of bread, the sanitary practices to be followed, and the safety measures in baking. She then led the workshop proper, allowing the learners to have a first-hand experience on how to bake a bread-particularly mongo bread.
In the last installment of the workshop series, the activity featured baking pizza as taught by Ms. Charisse Mae Camaing, the resource speaker. The learners participated in the baking of pizzas which was shared by them after it was cooked.
This series of workshops was initiated to prepare the learners to attain their National Certification Level II for Bread and Pastry Production. The top management, program leader, extensionists, and students were large contributors to the success of this endeavor.
Furthermore, this activity addresses the need for empowerment, for it sees the young as vital components and prime movers for the countryโs economic progress. This would also allow them to aim for social transformation in their lives.
