In line with the Tripartite Memorandum of Agreement signed in 2021 between Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-CENRO Iriga and Samahang Organisasyong pang Kalikasan (SOK) Inc., Agroforestry faculty members of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Extension Services Division conducted a Seminar-Workshop on Agroforestry Technology on May 15, 2023, at Barangay Kinalabasan, Bula, Camarines Sur.
The faculty members of BSAF, Edlynne Kaith Manlangit, Marvi Mynell Cid, and Jean Dalagan-Magbalot initiated this activity and served as resource speakers. BSAF Students also observed and served as facilitators during this community exposure. The activity allowed the upland members to be equipped with the technical know-hows on agroforestry technology.
The SOK president, Mr. Eddie D. Bermas, participated in the event and expressed his appreciation for the initiative by CBSUA and DENR to keep educating upland farmers about agroforestry technology that allows uplifting the lives of the community. He also mentioned that the SOK members were interested in other capability-building activities and other technology CBSUA will offer, like the integration of stingless bees in their identified agroforestry sites.
The DENR-CENRO Iriga CBFM Focal person for the SOK in Kinalabasahan, Ms. Lalaine B. Gotis, also attended and assisted the community during the activity and expressed their support to improve the communityโs livelihood through training, starter kits, and planting materials. Also, the CBSUA representatives stated that they could provide the technical expertise for the said training.
During the seminar-workshop, participants learned to make an A-frame, a tool used in contour establishment. The BSAF faculty assisted the farmers in locating the contour lines using an A-frame. They planted Gliricidia sepium specie which farmers can use as fodder for grazing animals in the future.
