CBSUA CONDUCTS TECHNOLOGY FORUM ON TARO FARMING AND INNOVATIONS

The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) organized a comprehensive Technology Forum on Taro Farming and Innovations at Delo Verges Farm, Bula, Camarines Sur. The event, held on October 4, 2024, aimed to disseminate vital agricultural knowledge and showcase cutting-edge advancements in taro farming practices.

The program commenced with the registration of participants at 8:00 a.m. The forum was officially opened with inspiring remarks from Ms. Weneilyn Nilo, Unit Head of the Research Services Division.

Ms. Leah B. Sumalinog, Head of the TPDU, and Ms. Zyra B. Hila, Agricultural Technician II, facilitated the introductory segment, provided an overview of the activity, and introduced the resource persons.

The first technical session featured Ms. Leizl G. Ayala, Director of the Taro Center, who discussed the “Taro Farming Values”. Her presentation underscored the economic, social, and environmental benefits of taro farming, providing the audience with a deeper appreciation for sustainable agriculture. Following this, Engr. Julius L. De Villa, a faculty researcher and study leader of taro projects, presented the innovative “Taro Leaves Shredder”. This session demonstrated how technology can enhance productivity and efficiency in taro farming, offering participants practical solutions for streamlining their operations.

After a networking lunch break, the focus shifted to practical applications. Mrs. Raquel Delo Verges, the owner of Delo Verges Agri Farm, shared their success story in the “Taro Farming: The Case of Delo Verges Agri Farm” session. Her narrative highlighted the challenges and triumphs in establishing a thriving taro farm, inspiring participants to apply best practices in their ventures.

An open forum provided a platform for participants to engage directly with the resource persons, clarifying their queries and exchanging ideas. The event culminated in a site visit around Delo Verges Farm, where attendees observed real-life applications of taro farming techniques and innovations.

Assoc. Prof. Mae Lustre, Coordinator of the Research Services Division shared a heartwarming message to the participants, emphasizing CBSUA’s commitment to lead innovations to help build resilient and sustainable communities.

Dr. Vladimir R. Foronda, Director of the Extension Services Division, expressed gratitude in his closing remarks, acknowledging the contributions of the resource persons, participants, and the host farm, he also emphasized the importance of collaboration in advancing agricultural practices.

The Tech Forum was a resounding success, achieving its objectives of knowledge-sharing and innovation dissemination. Participants were equipped with practical insights and motivated to apply modern approaches to taro farming.
