On June 17, 2023, the CBSUA-Extension Services Division assisted the Carmel Agri-Learning Farm, Inc., in hosting the training session on the Production of High-Quality Inbred Rice Seed Certification and Farm Mechanization with an emphasis on soil sample collection, post-harvest and indigenous practices. Participants of the said training are twenty-two (22) rice farmers from Barangay Binobong, Pili, Camarines Sur.
The activity aimedย to teach farmers how to collect soil samples, use a soil test kit, and understand the proper post-harvest practices process. This activity assists farmers in understanding farm mechanization and the various machinery to distinguish between modern and indigenous practices in rice post-harvest management.
Ms. Leizl Ayala, a faculty member of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources served as the resource person, who discussed proper collection of soil samples. Participants sketched their farmlands and identified where and how to manage them. She also discussedย Post-Harvest and Indigenous Practices. As a result, the participants were able to comprehend the significance of farm mechanization, which improves the efficiency of farm operations and inputs while lowering production costs and post-harvest losses.
The rice farmers were also familiarized with the Soil Test Kit (STK) and Fertilizer Computation, which reliably measures soil fertility and detects insufficient nutrients in order to provide effective fertilizer recommendations.
