The College of Development Education as a center of development continuous to commit itself to providing quality education specifically to pre-service teachers. To adapt to the โnow normalโ, the CDE forged a Memorandum of Agreement with five private schools from Pili and Iriga City, December 17, 2021, for the deployment of the 135 pre-service teachers of the Secondary Education Program and 70 pre-service teachers of the Elementary Education Program.
This is a part of the thorough preparation, these 205 4th-year practice-teachers of the college who participated in the Orientation-Training last January 10, 2022.
The program started with an AVP of the opening prayer followed by the Philippine National Anthem. Professor Nelia A. Barce, CBSUA-LHS coordinator, presented the PVMGO, followed by the inspiring and encouraging message of the CBSUA-Pili Campus Administrator, Dr. Celerino B. Llesol, Jr. and Dr. Raquel M. Reapor, CDE Dean, presented the school assignments and supervising professors of both the two programs. Professor Kennedy A. Beltran, EEP chairperson, presented the Guidelines on Student Internship as articulated in the CBSUA Student Manual.
For the participants to be given the opportunity to understand important issues, open forum was provided which was followed by the break-out session to give way to the orientation per cooperating school.
The break-out session were participated by the pre-service teachers and the school heads/principals of the cooperating schools like Ms. Joanes G. Santiago, School President, Montessori Children House of Learning, School Principals; Ms. Lyra B. Mangubat of Evangelical Christian School, Mr. Jayson B. Casiao of Yobhel Christian School; Mr. Jar-R H. Leonidas of Mother Theresa de Iriga, Inc.; Mr. Ronald D. Valerio, of Unibersidad de Sta. Isabel-Pili Campus; and, Professor Nelia A. Barce, CBSUA-LHS Coordinator.
After the lunch break, Professor Leizle B. Manacob, RGC, CDE Faculty, discussed the First topic on the โNetiquette in Online Teachingโ. The speaker presented the highlights of the legal basis of the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers as a background of the topic. She emphasized the importance of netiquette by providing 10 pointers in a successful virtual classroom.
According to her, teachers should be punctual and dressed formally; must use an a decent email profile picture; must set a protocol and decorum in the classroom; should keep the work environment free from distraction; teaching-learning time should be used judiciously; must ensure the teachersโ visibility; use appropriate body language; create engaging teaching background; carefully choose the words; establish a reasonable response time for answering studentsโ messages, and ensure the positive ambience during the virtual meeting. She also added the acronym WRITE- which refers to (W)arm, (R)esponsive, (I)nqusitive, (T)entative, and (E)mpathic. She ended with the quotation from Malcolm X, which states that, โEducation is the passportto the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.โ
The next and equally relevant topics discussed by Professor Paul Lemuel L. Cabrera, CDE Faculty member, was about, โGoogle meet Navigation for Synchronous Sessions and Using of Wix.com for E-portfolioโ. Professor Cabrera clearly explained the process of starting and joining video meetings, adjusting meet audio and video, sharing content and participating in meetings, and using the Wix.com to prepare the E-portfolio. The speaker created a sample E-portfolio showing the step-by-step process and patiently answered clarificatory questions about the webpage. According to him, the pre-service teachers can choose from a Website created by Wix.com or a Website that they want to create.
