In an innovative collaboration aimed at bolstering local food systems and empowering small-scale farmers, the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources joined forces with the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) on April 24, 2024, for a hands-on demonstration of broiler chicken slaughtering in Guinaban, Ocampo, Camarines Sur.
This initiative, part of the Project TOGETHER by ADRA, seeks to enhance equity, social capital, and the accessibility of locally produced foods, thereby strengthening community resilience and food security. The event underscored the importance of sustainable farming practices and the role of education in ensuring food quality and safety.
Judith R. Tortoles, a faculty expert from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, led the demonstration, teaching participants the correct broiler slaughtering and dressing methods. This knowledge transfer aims to ensure that the dressed broiler chickens produced by local farmers can compete in quality with other available poultry products.
The hands-on demonstration was attended by residents from the barangays of San Vicente and Guinaban in Ocampo, Camarines Sur, who are also beneficiaries of Project TOGETHER. This collaborative effort provided valuable skills to the participants and fostered a sense of community and shared purpose toward sustainable development. (Reports and Photos from Abigael Rose F.
