The Office of the Negosyo Center in Magarao, through the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Food Science-CEFS in the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, conducted a Skills Training in Processing Bottled Pinangat to MSMEs at the Municipality of Magarao on May 16, 2023.
Twenty (20) micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from the municipality of Magarao were trained to elevate the standard of Pinangat. The training aimed to improve the quality of Pinangat as one of the best delicacies representing Bicol. It also sought to make the said delicacy more recognized in the local and international market.
Professor Rocelyn M. Imperial, a faculty member of the Department of Food Science of the CBSUA, served as the resource person who assisted the participants in the processing of bottled pinangat.
“Pinangat is one of the delicacies well known in the country that represent the Bicolanos. To support the country’s increasing demand, the processing of bottled pinangat is necessary to extend its shelf life,” Prof. Imperial said in her talk.
The Negosyo Center Business Council of DTI, Mr. Francisco V. Formalejo, noted, “…the Municipality of Magarao is one of the best producers of pinangat. However, its unique taste is not yet tasted and experienced in the market.”
On behalf of Hon. Mayor Philip Salvador A. Señar, the Municipal Administrator, Atty. Myk Xavier L. Albao expressed his support in the training. In his message, “LGU Magarao is very supportive in improving its citizens’ skills which led to improving their livelihood. Bottled Pinangat making is one of these initiatives to increase their income.”
Prof. Imperial furtrhermore imparted knowledge in integrating good manufacturing practices (GMP) in food processing. Participants actively demonstrated their learning during the hands-on processing of pinangat.
The initiative happened through the active partnership between the Department of Trade and Industry, Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, and the Local Government Unit of Magarao.
Present also in the training were Ms. Lourdes Jane G.
