The CBSUA ISO Team, spearheaded by the Pollution Control Officers, together with the university’s partner, Zigs Eco-Sanitation Corporation, conducted the Training on Basic Hazardous Waste Handling on June 30, 2022 at CND Hall, CBSUA Pili Campus. This training is one of the initiatives of the university in the realization of the university’s mission to build a sustainable and resilient community. In attaining this mission, conformance with the policies of the DENR EMB and compliance to the ISO 14001:2015 standard, Environmental Management System, is vital.
In the morning session, Mr. Jerome G. Benipayo, the Marketing Executive of the Zigs Eco-Sanitation Corp., gave the introductory lecture on hazardous waste, particularly the definition and classification of hazardous waste, storage requirements, and container and label requirements. In addition, Engr. Roland C. Templado, the Executive Compliance Officer of the Zigs Eco-Sanitation Corp., discussed the housekeeping practices for hazardous wastes. The participants included the process owners that generate and manage hazardous waste in the university, specifically PPD, Infirmary, ICT Office, Cafeteria, Colleges that offer laboratory courses, Supply Office, and the Emergency Response Team (ERT).
In the afternoon session, the orientation on the DENR permit application was conducted. The pollution control officers, campus administrators, and selected process owners were the participants. An ocular visit to the generator set area and other pertinent facilities in the Pili and Calabanga campuses was also conducted.
