Pili, Camarines Sur โ The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) participated in the International Coastal Clean-Up Day on September 27, 2023, at CBSUA-Martillana Estero. “Clean Seas for Healthy Fisheries Sustainably Feed the Population” is this year’s theme.
The NURTURE Adopt Estero Extension Project led and organized the event to promote environmental awareness and protection in the local community. The clean-up day was conducted in partnership with the Local Government of Pili, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office of Pili, Camp Weene Martillana, Philippine Coast Guard-Auxillary, Police National Police, Barangay San Jose officials, Environmental Science Society and FACE Inc.
The event was led by Ms. Ginalyn R. Sabroso, Project Leader of NURTURE, who discussed the International Coastal Clean-Up Day: Overview and Orientation, and it was followed by messages of support from the representatives from the different partner agencies. The event began with a briefing from Ms. Ginalyn R. Sabroso, who emphasized the importance of environmental protection and sustainability. Volunteers from the Environmental Science Society, ES Faculty, local residents, and representatives from partner organizations then proceeded to the CBSUA-Martillana Estero, where they picked up trash and debris along the Estero strand. The participants worked together to collect plastic waste, cigarette butts, and other non-biodegradable materials that can harm the marine ecosystem.
The clean-up drive was successful, with the participants collecting several sacks of garbage and debris. The event served as a reminder that small actions can make a big difference in protecting the environment and preserving our natural resources. CBSUA is committed to promoting environmental protection and sustainability in the local community. The university hopes this event will inspire more people to act and protect our natural resources.
