The Capability Building on Solid Waste Management for CBSUA Utility Personnel was successfully conducted by the NURTURE Estero Project on September 25, 2023, at Ciriaco N. Divinagracia Hall, San Jose, Pili, Camarines Sur. The project aimed to address the challenges faced by the utility personnel in effectively managing solid waste at the University by building their capability and providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge.
During the training, the personnel were oriented on various aspects of waste management, such as collection, transportation, disposal, and recycling. Best practices, safety guidelines, and relevant regulations were also discussed to ensure that personnel can manage solid waste responsibly and sustainably. The training was facilitated by experts in the field of solid waste management, including Prof. Marilyn A. Siguenza, who discussed the salient features of RA 9003 or the “Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000”, Prof. Nasser Posada, who presented the CBSUA Policy on Solid Waste Management, and Prof. Ginalyn R. Sabroso, who facilitated the Waste Characterization and Analysis Training Workshop.
Prof. Vladimir R. Foronda, PhD., in his inspirational message during the opening program, expressed the importance of CBSUA as the personnel’s second home and the need to keep it clean, saying “Pantay-pantay po tayo rito, iba-iba lang ang role natin sa CBSUA. CBSUA is your second home, our second home that is why we are here. ‘Di ba meron po tayong kasabihan, cleanliness starts at home.”
By building the capability of utility personnel on solid waste management, CBSUA can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of waste management systems, reduce environmental impacts, and promote public health and safety. The NURTURE Estero Project is committed to continuing its efforts to capacitate CBSUA utility personnel and ensure a sustainable environment for everyone.
