Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA), along with the Philippine Studies Association, Inc., and University of the Philippines Visayas, recently hosted the Philippine Studies Association 2024 National Conference from March 20-22, 2024, with the theme, “Continuity, Change, and Challenges in Philippine Settlements and Environments,” that took place at the Alvaro Rabina Hall of the CBSUA Main Campus, Pili Camarines Sur.
The conference was honored by the presence of Dr. Alberto N. Naperi, President of CBSUA, and Dr. Clement C. Camposano, UP Visayas Chancellor and PSA President. Keynote speaker Dr. Dada Docot, Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Purdue University, addressed the gathering on “Forced Resilience” on the first day, followed by engaging Parallel Sessions 1 and 2, and a Cultural Night.
On the second day, Professor Pas Verdades Santos, a retired professor of De La Salle University, shared her insights on Bikol Studies, followed by Sir Victor Dennis Nierva, President of the Naga City Culture Coalition, discussing “Coalition-building and the Ripening of Regional Creative Industries.” The day also included Parallel Sessions 3 and 4 and a screening of the movie titled “My Partner.”
Architect Paulo Alcazaren from PGAA Creative Design discussed “Philippine Plazas: Rediscovering, Recovering, and Revivifying Urban Public Space in the Philippines,” followed by Parallel Sessions 5.
The event concluded with the launch of Filipinas Journal Volumes 5 and 6 by Dr. Elizabeth Enriquez of the Philippine Studies Association and closing remarks by Dr. Ramona Isabel Ramirez, Vice President for Research and Innovation of CBSUA.
