Central Bicol State University of Agriculture-Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, in partnership with the University of the Philippines Los Baลos- College of Public Affairs and Development (UPLB-CPAf) along with Nagoya University, organized the 2023 Learning Event themed Research in Practice: Bridging the Gap Between Theory and Application, preceding the Overseas Field Work (OFW) preliminary findings presentation by the Nagoya University Graduate School of International Development (NU-GSID) Students at CBSUA Pili Campus on 19 and 20 September 2023.
Institute for Governance and Rural Development Director, Dr. Evelie P. Serrano and CPAf Faculty, Dr. Maria Luz L. Malabayabas, and NU-GSID Professor and OFW Adviser, Dr. Francis Peddie discussed Qualitative Research, Quantitative Research, and Research Ethics, respectively, focusing on choosing the appropriate methods based on the research questions and objectives and the ethical considerations in doing research to CBSUA faculty before the research proposal enhancement workshop. CBSUA faculty researchers presented and received comments and suggestions from Dr. Serrano, Dr. Malabayabas, and the CPAf Dean, Dr. Rowena DT. Baconguis to improve their research proposal.
โThe said learning event encouraged more the faculty to do research with appropriate research methods and guided by research ethics, helping them bridge the gap between knowledge and application,โ said a participant.
Meanwhile, the research preliminary findings presentation by NU-GSID students focused on three key areas: Economics, Education, and Governance with cases in Pili and one farm in Calabanga, Camarines Sur. Stakeholders, including Local Government of Pili officials, agritourism farm owners and entrepreneurs, and other guests, were invited during the presentation.
VP for Administration and Finance, Atty. Dominador F. Faurillo and VP for Research and Innovation, Dr. Ramona Isabel S. Ramirez emphasized bridging theory and practice as the key role of said event and stressed that CBSUA faculty would be more inspired to explore research as well as engage more to research-related endeavors to maintain being a Level IV University.
Participants in the learning event and research findings sharing also included faculty members from the four CBSUA campuses and UPLB PhD DVST and MPAf cohorts.
The learning event among CBSUA, UPLB-CPAf, and NU-GSID began during the term of former VPAA, Dr. Ana E. Miranฬa, and continues under the leadership of Dr. Emerson L.
