The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Center 5, in cooperation with the CBSUA-Digital Agriculture and Innovation Center, conducted a 2-day “Regional Training on Quantum Geographic Information System for Bantay ASF as Barangay” from May 19 to 20, 2022, at Isarog Hall, ATI-RTC5, San Agustin Pili, Camarines Sur. It was attended by 25 participants from the different Local Government Units’ veterinary offices and provincial agriculture offices in six provinces.
The training aimed to sustain the University’s intention to further enhance the knowledge and skills of the agricultural technologist, animal health technicians, veterinarians, and other technical staff of the LGUs in utilizing Geographic Information System and Geographic Position mobile tools, in spatially establishing the suspected premise or farm affected by African Swine Fever (ASF). The acquired skills and learnings were assessed by generating digital maps showing the zone of infection, quarantine zone, and control zone. Professor Vladimir R. Foronda, the Center Director for Digital Agriculture and Innovation, Division Director for Extension Services (ESD), Mr. Jonric B. Galvan of the Provincial Government of Camarines Sur, and Mr. Karlos Miguel Haber, CBSUA-ESD Technical Staff, served as the resource persons of the training.
This initiative of the CBSUA-Digital Agriculture and Innovation Center in cooperation with ATI-RC5 is part of the long-term plan of both parties to assist the LGUs in improving the capabilities of their Agricultural Extension Workers. The AEWs will consist of the agricultural sector by adopting technological innovations in agriculture and fisheries. Also, part of the activity is the diligent staff from DA-ATI, Mr. Alexander O Vargas, John Kenneth G. Hilario, Mr. Robert Santos Jr., and Ms. Judy Rabosa.
