Raising consciousness
Centered on the Philippine implementation of Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Law (TRAIN LAW), the Managerial Economics class of Dr. Gladys Rosales of the College of Economics and Management facilitated the British and Asian Parliamentary Debate on 1 December 2018 at Room 2 of CEM Building, CBSUA.
BSAB 4A who battled in the British Parliamentary Debate arguing whether the TRAIN Law was beneficial or not became the participants in the said activity.
The TRAIN Law requires large income tax cuts from majority of Filipino taxpayers while earning more funds to support of the “Build, Build, Build” projects and services of the current government.
On the second part of the activity, the CBSUA Debate Society (DebSoc) used the Asian Parliamentary Debate on a mock debate composed of two competing houses. Started with the motion, “This house believes that Filipino should not be excluded in the core subjects as a minimum requirement of CHED”, debaters opposed the CHED Memorandum Order No. 20 Series of 2013 also known as the “General Education Curriculum Holistic Understandings”.
The debate served as an eye opener for the students in assessing the laws and programs of the current administration of the country. Also, the activity showed the relevance of social and political awareness among the students of economics and management and their possible response to the issues in the Philippines.
