The College of Education Extension Services Unit, in collaboration with the College Artisans Bulletin, spearheaded a webinar series entitled Pagsalingoy with the theme “Revisiting Alumni Writers’ Role as Journalist amid Pandemic.”
The first plenary session of the webinar series kicked off on August 7, 2021, with Prof. Ma. Sheila B. Fortuno-Tabal, faculty of Media Studies Department from Ateneo de Naga University, discussed Techniques in News Writing and Strategies in Outsourcing Information from the Internet.
Prof. Tabal discussed storytelling canvass wherein various factors are presented and need to be considered in developing an article. Moreover, she gave tips on how to select images that are appropriate representations of the news being presented. The next part of the discussion was the ways to outsource information and how important to the viewers to determine the veracity of information from the internet. Lastly, she discussed the concept of fake news and the seven ways to detect fake news.
After the discussion, participants raised their questions and Prof. Tabal enlightened the participants with regards to their queries. The plenary session was participated by teachers, young professionals, alumni writers, student journalists, and international attendees from Indonesia. The 2nd plenary session of the webinar will be on the 14th of August, 2021 with Prof. Jericho Q. de Leon, faculty of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, La Union will serve as discussant.
