The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) participated in the Health Research Contests 2024, with researchers from the university earning recognition in both the student and professional categories.
In the Student Category of the Oral Presentation, Ms. Jane Rosemarie Jeremias from CBSUA participated as a finalist with their research on “Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Bacterial Isolates in Tilapia (Oreochromis spp.) at Lake Buhi and Lake Bato, Camarines Sur, Philippines.” The study examined the antimicrobial resistance patterns of bacterial strains found in tilapia from local water bodies, providing critical insights that can inform sustainable fishery management and public health strategies.
Furthermore, in the Professional Category of the Oral Presentation, Mr. John Ben Temones from CBSUA placed 3rd with his research on “Logistic Regression Analysis on the Dietary Behavior and the Risk of Nutritional Deficiency Dermatosis: The Case of Bicol Region, Philippines.” Temones’ study analyzed the dietary habits and risk factors for nutritional deficiency dermatosis, a skin condition, among the population in the Bicol region. The findings can help guide public health interventions and nutritional programs addressing these health concerns in the local community.
The Health Research Contests 2024, organized by the Department of Science and Technology, brought together the brightest minds in medicine and public health from across the Bicol Region.
