The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture inked a Memorandum of Agreement with the DepEd Lagonoy South District at San Sebastian Elementary School, Lagonoy on July 10, 2023, which marked the formal commitment to fostering collaboration between the two. This community intervention aligns with the project “Knowledge-Sharing and Strengthening Potentials of Teachers in Basic Education on Organic Agriculture,” an extension initiative spearheaded by its project leader Prof. Myra Homillano, Ph.D., under the CBSUA Graduate School, Master of Science in Agricultural Education. The OIC President, Vice President for Administration and Finance, Atty. Dominador F. Faurillo and the Vice President for Research and Innovation, Ramona Isabel S. Ramirez, Ph.D., graced the event.

After the MOA signing, Knowledge-Sharing on Organic Agriculture was carried out. Prof. Lily John Casimiro, the Director of the Organic Agriculture Center, served as the Resource Person who shared her valuable insights on Organic Agriculture. She discussed the importance and the benefits of Organic Agriculture and the visions and aspirations for a future where organic farming takes center stage, promoting ecological balance and healthy living not just for the participants who are teachers but also for their students and their families. Attendees of the said activity gained insights into the basics of organic agriculture.

Meanwhile, the project leader also shared about her project, its purpose, and its visions. The project aims to promote Agriculture by integrating the concept of Organic Agriculture in teaching and learning various subjects in Public Schools. This program also seeks to improve the teachers’ potential in teaching Basic Education by integrating Organic Agriculture concepts. The project leader emphasized the need to integrate the concepts of agriculture in teaching the student so they will not only understand and learn about the particular topic being taught, but they will also appreciate the importance of agriculture to their lives. A cooking demonstration was also conducted to share some recipes made out of organic vegetables, to help teachers develop more nutritious and appetizing food for the school’s feeding program for malnourished students.
