CBSUA DELEGATES VISIT UNRAM; INTENSIFY PARTNERSHIP AND COLLABORATION THROUGH ICTP

CBSUA aims to strengthen internationalization linkages and programs through the International Credit Transfer Program: Academic Visit on April 26-May 24, 2023, at Universitas Mataram, Lombok, Indonesia, guided by CMO 55, s. 2016, which provides a policy framework and strategies for the internationalization of Philippine Higher Education. Central Bicol State University of Agriculture’s International Credit Transfer Program (ICTP) with Universitas Mataram Indonesia also includes a cultural exchange program in which CBSUA students will participate in academic and cultural activities at UNRAM.

This activity aims to promote cooperation and advancement of academic and educational exchange. It also aims to enhance the quality of Philippine teacher education through teacher exchange; and produce graduates with competencies who can live and work in a diverse, multicultural setting through student exchange.

Ten (10) student exchange delegates from Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, eight (8) from the College of Development Education together with one (1) faculty, and two (2) from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources together with two (2) teachers departed CBSUA last April 26, 2023. The CBSUA delegation arrived at Lombok International Airport on April 27, 2023, and was welcomed by members of the UNRAM faculty and students at Lombok International Airport.

The activity kicked off on April 28, 2023, with a courtesy call to UNRAM’s Rector and an academic discussion with key University officials.  Prof. Bambang Hari Kusumo, Universitas Mataram (UNRAM) ‘s rector, warmly welcomed faculty and students from Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA). He introduced the key officials and emphasized the collaboration between the two partner universities. He also discussed the activities to be attended by CBSUA delegates during their month of stay. The courtesy call was followed by a message from Dr. Marilyn Balderas, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. She provided a brief history of the International Credit Transfer Program. She expressed interest in working together to strengthen the agreement between the CBSUA and UNRAM to align with ASEAN goals. Dr. Ahmad Junaidi presented the expanded collaboration and partnership and the priority levels to be addressed. Dr. Santi, Head of English Education Department, sent a message of commitment in which she expressed her full support for the partnership. Finally, Prof. Bambang Hari Kusumo, Rector of Universitas Mataram, delivers heartfelt closing remarks.

The CBSUA delegates will participate in events that will broaden their views and cultural vision throughout their stay of 26 days at the University. Dr. Darrel Ocampo, faculty of English education, will deliver a series of lectures, namely, “Topic 1: Reshaping English Language Teaching in Higher Education in the ASEAN Region for a Sustainable Future” “Topic 2: CBSUA Teacher Education: A Trifocal Approach to Quality Teaching, Learning, and Futures Thinking: Addressing Gaps During the Pandemic, Exploring Possibilities of New Realities and Uncertainties”, and “Topic 3: Discoursing the Discourse: The Roles and Importance of Discourse Analysis in Conducting Social Science Research.” Meanwhile, Dr. Emma Jarcia will discuss “Breeding Initiatives of CBSUA for Philippine Native Chicken.” At the same time, Dr. Marilyn Balderas will discuss “Analysis of Pollens Foraged by Stingless Bees in Bicol Region, Philippines.”The CBSUA student delegates and UNRAM students will also participate in the presentation by discussing their experiences with the pandemic in a group discussion. After their first week, the CBSUA students will attend their respective classes at UNRAM by their enrolled courses.

As CBSUA aims to intensify the international mobility of faculty and students, this activity forties the University’s goal of fostering international cooperation and academic advancement to be at par with global standards.
