The CBSUA Pasacao Community-Based Mangrove Restoration and Conservation (CBMRC) Project partook in the rehabilitation and restoration of the mangrove sites in Pasacao, Camarines Sur in December 12, 2022.
The project was able to organize youth groups and volunteers to support the mangrove tree planting activity in the Barangay of Balogo Pasacao. The barangay used to have a good mangrove cover but anthropogenic factors caused the decline of the mangroves. Considering the ecological services of the mangroves to coastal erosion, biodiversity, and typhoon resilience, mangrove tree planting activities were done at Sitio Mainit, Balogo Pasacao.
The project is in partnership with the Government of Camarines Sur, the Municipal Local Government Unit of Pasacao, the barangay local government unit of Balogo, the CBSUA, and the Department of Science and Technology RO5. The CBMRC project prepares the barangay of Balogo and its community to adapt to climate change impacts and mitigation by enhancing the economic potential in the area through the rehabilitation and conservation of mangrove forests.
The project continuously flourished with the help of youth volunteers and organized groups from different communities like the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary 902 Squadron fourth division (PCGA 902.4) , the Department of Education District of Pasacao, Sangguniang Kabataan of Balogo, Eagles-Agrikultura Chapter, and the BS Environmental Science Environmental Conservationist Organization (BSES ECO).
The implementation of the project eventually expanded to its neighboring coastal areas of Dalupaon, Tinalmod and Caranan. The initiative of the project is also promoted in various DepEd schools of Pasacao and social media platforms to encourage more volunteers and coastal barangays to do the same strategies of environment conservation.
The CBMRC project of Ms. Sheryl N. San Andres has been a success with the partnership and support of the university, all its partners and collaborators especially the financial support of the Daro Anak Port Services Corporation, a port service business located at Pier, Pasacao.
