The PhilRice partnered with the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the CBSUA-Digital Agriculture and Innovation Center organized the SMART Farm Appreciation Day for the Youth on December 12, 2023, at the CBSUA Student Atrium with the theme, “Scaling Modern and Adaptive Rice Technologies towards Prosperous Farming Community (SMART Farm).”
The event’s primary objective was to educate and raise awareness among young people about the significance of agriculture, particularly in the context of smart farming. The CBSUA President, Alberto N. Naperi, expressed his desire to make studying at CBSUA more exciting, as he believes that transferring knowledge and technology should not be limited to traditional methods. He has set a goal for CBSUA to become a SMART University in his five-year development plan.
During the event, Dr. Dindo King M. Donayre, a Career Scientist I, delivered a lecture on the SMART farm where he shared information about the Digital Transformation Initiatives of DA-PhilRice. The PhilRice CES-Nueva Ecija personnel also introduced various online applications to the attendees, such as the Binhing Palay App, eDamuhan App, Minus One Element Technique App, Leaf Color Computing App, Rice Crop Management Advisory Service, PhilRice Text Center, Pinoy Rice Knowledge Bank, and PalayCheck App.
The organizers hope the event will inspire the next generation of farmers and promote sustainable agriculture practices.
