SDG 13: Climate Action

Climate change is a global crisis that affects everyone and is advancing faster than anticipated due to human activities and greenhouse gas emissions. Its consequences—ranging from severe weather shifts to rising sea levels—threaten life on earth and could reverse years of developmental progress, sparking mass migrations, instability, and even conflict.

To prevent the worst outcomes, urgent action is needed to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Achieving this goal requires cutting emissions by nearly half by 2030, though current progress falls far short.

Transformative action, not just plans and promises, is essential. Governments and economies must raise their ambitions, commit to climate-resilient development, and chart clear paths toward net-zero emissions. Immediate steps are vital to avoid catastrophic consequences and secure a sustainable future.

Policies and Guidelines

The CBSUA Environmental Policy and Guidelines discusses its policies on the continued adoption of austerity measures on water conservation, energy conservation, recycling programs, and clean air programs . The water conservation program involves cost-cutting measures to save water and maximize the use of water witin the CBSUA premises. The energy conservation program discusses policies on the turning on and off of air conditioning units in all offices, including an aircon holiday. All lights and electrical devices shall be turned off and plugged out when no one is using them, leaving only minimal light for illumination during nighttime. The Recycling program encourages all stakeholders, public and private entities, to reduce as much waste is possible. Caterers, business center operators, and vendors in the University are mandated to bring home-generated garbage. And lastly, the Clean Air program prohibits the selling of cigarettes and other smoking devices within the university premises, adhering to the Clean Air act initiatives of the government.

The University upholds a waste segregation and collection policy, as detailed in the attached Environmental Management System guidelines. Moreover, it has consistently monitored waste generation on campus, including biodegradable waste like food scraps. Through initiatives led by the CBSUA Resilience Center, the University has taken proactive steps to reduce food waste, emphasizing the importance of addressing its environmental and social impacts.
