College of Economics and Management (CEM) Faculty member, Mr. Ardolf B. Arce, was invited as one of the lecturers in the recently concluded Asia Summer Program (ASP) 2019 hosted by its first founding institution, Petra Christian University on 1-19 July 2019. ASP 2019 was participated in by lecturers and 157 students from 21 universities in 12 different Asian countries. The primary aim of the three-week international summer program was to foster future leaders who have strong understanding of Asian cultures, broad and creative mindset, and talent for international collaboration.
ASP is a three-week summer program where students can earn up to four academic credits applicable at their home universities. The program also included activities and tours providing insight of the host country’s culture as well as promoting cooperation and a sense of international community. ASP has been held since 2012 and has taken place in a different country each year. In 2013, the ASP was affiliated with the Asian University Presidents Forum, which greatly extended its scope. Since then,students from universities in 18 countries have participated in the Asia Summer Program.
“ASP has become an excellent platform for students coming from many different backgrounds,universities, and countries, not only from Asia but also from Europe, to stretch themselves and to learn together in a multicultural and inter national atmosphere”, Rector of Petra Christian University, Prof. Dr. Djwantoro Hardjitosaid. He added that joining ASP will be a life-changing experience for all the participants to prepare in becoming champions in this disruptive era.
Themed as “The Hero in Me”,ASP campaigned to encourage participants to awaken the hero within them to be kind, insightful, and innovative future leaders of Asia.
During the three-week lecture series, Mr. Arce lectured—fundamentals of agritourism to eleven (11)students from participating universities in Indonesia, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines.In general, the lecture provided students with an overview of agritourism assuitable development and as an industry.
The twenty one (21) participating universities were: Bangkok University, Thailand, Daffodil International University, Bangladesh, Dongseo University, South Korea, Camarines Norte State College, Philippines, Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, Philippines,Josai International University, Japan, Kaichi International University, Japan, MaChung University, Indonesia, Merriam College, Philippines, Mykolas Romeris University, Lithuania, National Formosa University, Taiwan, National Ilan University, Taiwan, Northwest Samar State University, Philippines, Panpacific University North Philippines,Philippines, Philippine Normal University, Philippines, Universitas KristenPetra, Indonesia, Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias, Portugal,Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Malaysia, Singapore University of Social Science,Singapore, SolBridge International School of Business, South Korea, and Wenzao Ursuline University of Language, Taiwan.
ASP Flag was handed over to the University Malaysia Perlis as it accepted the challenge as the host of Asia Summer Program 2020.
