The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) marked the 10th Organic Agriculture Month with a vibrant celebration at Agriville, Pili, joined by the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office V (DA-RFOV) , and the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI). The event aimed to highlight the importance of organic farming in sustainable agriculture and raise awareness about its environmental and economic benefits.
The day-long event featured a series of insightful talks by experts in the field of organic agriculture. Topics ranged from sustainable farming practices to the latest innovations in organic agriculture. The speakers emphasized the critical role that organic agriculture plays in addressing food security, preserving biodiversity, and reducing the ecological footprint of conventional farming practices.
One of the highlights of the celebration was a cooking contest that brought together local farmers and students, showcasing the versatility and flavors of organic ingredients. Contestants prepared dishes using fresh, organic produce, emphasizing the connection between healthy food choices and environmentally-friendly farming practices.
“We are proud to celebrate this milestone in organic agriculture,” said Dr. Philip Talay, Dean of the College of Economics and Management. “This event not only strengthens the ties between our university, the Department of Agriculture, and local farmers, but it also inspires the younger generation to engage in sustainable farming for the future of our planet.”
The collaboration between CBSUA and the DA also served to underscore the national push for more sustainable agricultural practices in the country. Through educational programs, hands-on demonstrations, and community engagement, both organizations aim to continue advancing organic agriculture as a key solution for local and global food challenges.
The event was attended by local officials, students, and members of the farming community, all of whom participated in discussions about the future of organic agriculture and the practical steps needed to promote its adoption in the region.
As the celebration wrapped up, organizers expressed optimism that the continued advocacy for organic agriculture will inspire more farmers and communities to embrace sustainable practices that benefit both the environment and the economy. | Photos from ATI and DA RFOV
