18 TRIUMPHS OCTOBER 2024 VETERINARIAN LICENSURE EXAMINATION

Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) has once again made a significant mark in the field of veterinary medicine. In the October 2024 Veterinarian Licensure Examination, 18 of its graduates emerged victorious, with a remarkable 61.54% of them passing on their first attempt.

The university obtained a 42.86% institutional performance rate against the 46.92% national passing rate. Among the successful examinees, eight were first-time takers, while ten were repeaters.

Dr. Marie Rachelle Jane C. Mangading, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, attributed the improved performance to various factors. She highlighted the impact of collaborative efforts with partner institutions to enhance practical training, which was crucial due to pandemic-related limitations in the previous year. She also recognized the Philippine Association of Veterinary Medicine Educators and Schools (PAVMES) initiative to develop a Table of Specifications for the exam made a significant contribution to the success of CBSUA’s graduates.

Looking ahead and to continue the college’s momentum, Dr. Mangading emphasized the need for additional faculty members and intensified student training, including mock examinations to refine test-taking strategies. “We focus on not only knowing the answer but also knowing how to answer the question,” she added.

For the passers, Dr. Mangading expressed her hopes for their future endeavors. She encouraged them to pursue various specializations within the field, as veterinary medicine is a highly sought-after profession. She also reminded them of the vital role veterinarians play in food safety, security, public health, and One Health initiatives. “Whatever path they take after achieving their license, I hope they remember to always uphold integrity. They really worked hard to achieve the three letters [after their name], but now they have to work harder to maintain the essence of it,” she added.

Dr. Alberto N. Naperi, CBSUA President extends his congratulations to the passers, “May they always bring the CBSUA spirit as they journey to the next chapter of their lives.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Mangading also encourages the non-passing examinee to not give up and continue pursuing their dreams, “The exam does not define your entire journey. You should not give up. The college remains committed to supporting your aspirations.”

The university and the College of Veterinary Medicine celebrate this year’s impressive attainments, a major leap from the previous year’s results. The college commits to continuing this feat in the same examination next year.
