The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) is charting a new course for its future through an intensive three-day strategic planning session held at Mai’s Hotel and Resort in Bacon District from August 15 to 17. The event brought together the university’s top management and management committee to craft a long-term strategic development plan building upon the foundations laid in Phases I and II.
Renowned experts in the field of strategic planning and futures thinking were invited to guide the university in this critical endeavor. Former CHED Commissioner Ruperto S. Sangalang, PhD., shared his insights on future strategies, policies, and programs, while introducing essential tools like the futures wheel, PESTLE analysis, and SWOT analysis.
Ms. Jalaine Joyce V. Malabanan, a Course Specialist from the Philippine Futures Thinking Society, emphasized the importance of foresight in long-term planning. She urged participants to adopt a generational perspective and introduced the concept of the futures cone.
Mr. Emmanuel de Guia, Director for Strategic Network and Partnerships, provided practical guidance to the team and introduced KRAPIs (Key Results Areas, Performance Indicators, and Strategies) and PATREs (Programs, Activities, Tasks, and Resources) as essential tools for effective planning.
Following the expert presentations, participants engaged in workshops to refine their outputs based on the new vision and strategic directions. A technical writing committee was subsequently formed to finalize the strategic development plan.
The three-day planning session was a significant milestone for CBSUA, marking the beginning of an exciting journey towards becoming a leading agricultural research university.
