In a move towards community development in Barangay Capucnasan, Milaor, Camarines Sur, the CBSUA-College of Economics and Management (CEM), ZONTA, and the PNP R-PSB, commenced an economic empowerment program on June 13, 2024.
This initiative is aimed to boost the socioeconomic status of the residents through tailored programs and training. The project was initiated in May this year following a detailed needs assessment led by Dr. Gladys Rosales of the CLEAR Extension under CEM. With inputs from Barangay Captain Wennie T. Guerrero and the ESD staff, the team identified specific needs, laying the groundwork for a series of interventions designed to meet the communityโs unique requirements.
The event was facilitated by PCpl Robert M. Braga of PNP R-PSB and set a positive note for the initiative. Hon. Wennie T. Guerrero emphasized the vital role of economic independence in fostering community resilience and growth in his opening speech.
The highlight of the launch was a seminar on Economic Empowerment conducted by Edna Tejada, a former DTI Director. Tejadaโs expert insights on innovative income-generation strategies inspired participants to develop a unique product symbolic of Barangay Capucnasan, promising to boost its economic standing and market reputation.
The seminar also featured an interactive Q&A session, complemented by inspiring anecdotes from Charlotte Dizon, a ZONTA member and President of the Toastmasters Club. Her experiences underscored the importance of self-empowerment and community solidarity in achieving sustainable development.
Outlined by Dr. Rosales and the ESD staff, the plan for upcoming training sessions reflects a collaborative planning approach, promising an impactful journey toward economic empowerment and sustainable community development.
