On May 24, 2023, representatives from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) conducted on-site monitoring at the CBSUA Community to formally close the research program, “Balaong nin Pagrumdum: Curation of the Traditional Performing Arts of the Bikol Region,” an event that marked the culmination of an important initiative aimed at preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Bikolano people.
Led by Dr. Ramona Isabel S. Ramirez, the Vice-President for Research and Innovation at CBSUA, the community expressed gratitude for the opportunity entrusted to them by CHED and NCCA. Dr. Jiye A. Margate served as the program leader, along with Mr. Manuel A. Margate, Jr., who played crucial roles as co-proponents.
The SALIKHA Creative Projects, funded by CHED and NCCA, sought to inspire creativity and the production of artistic works by supporting academic and artistic endeavors in higher education institutions throughout the country. The representatives from CHED and NCCA inspected the equipment procured for the program, which would be donated to the University.
During the visit, the program leader and her co-proponent shared recommendations on how to sustain and further promote Bikolano culture and arts. These suggestions were aimed at ensuring the continued preservation and celebration of the traditional performing arts of the Bikol Region. The representatives from CHED and NCCA also discussed potential future programs and projects to collaborate on, emphasizing the importance of continued support for cultural initiatives.
The research program, “Balaong nin Pagrumdum,” played a significant role in documenting and curating the traditional performing arts of the Bikol Region. By doing so, it has contributed to the preservation and recognition of the cultural heritage of the Bikolano people.
