Twenty (20) faculty and research staff of CBSUA recently completed the Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) training workshop ‘IP Management Program for Academic Institutions Commercializing Technology (IMPACT): Enhancement of the DOST-FNRI’s Technology Transfer Office Policies and Processes’ where DOST-FNRI equipped the participants with the expertise on measuring the readiness of technologies, and the drafting of technology transfer protocol via lectures and workshops. From its technology transfer and commercialization efforts, DOST-FNRI also shared their best practices to CBSUA. For their part, CBSUA remains eager to build upon its intellectual properties and other technology assets to monetize them via licensing and other means of commercialization such as startups and spinoffs.
The training workshop ran for three days, from Monday, November 7 to Wednesday, November 9 at the Ciriaco N. Divinagracia Hall of the Research and Innovation Center, and on Thursday, November 10 at the Ecotel Café. Sharing their expertise and training the CBSUA faculty and research staff were Mr. Jaypy S. De Juan, Senior Science Research Specialist, and Ms. Lea B. Landicho, Science Research Specialist II, both from the Business Development Unit of DOST-FNRI. Gracing the event were CBSUA VP for Administration and Finance Atty. Dominador F. Faurillo, who, representing CBSUA President Alberto N. Naperi, welcomed the participants and challenged them to reap the commercialization efforts of the university with the current training an enabling tool, and VP for Research and Innovation Dr. Ramona Isabel S. Ramirez, who, as lead of the research and innovation efforts of CBSUA, led the collaboration with DOST-FNRI to realize the event.
The training workshop came into fruition with the leading efforts of DOST-FNRI Director Dr. Imelda Angeles-Agdeppa, Scientist IV, and Alexis M. Ortiz, Supervising Science Research Specialist and IMPACT Project Leader, with the legwork of the IMPACT staff Mr. John Albert V. Malaki and Ms. Ricamae V. Larrazabal. The IMPACT project is funded by the DOST-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD). The CBSUA participants either represented various offices, research and innovation centers of the university or are technology generators themselves.
