Geared to developing digitally interconnected learning space, Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) will launch the SMART Campus for Academic e-Governance and Agriculture 4.0: Campus Area Network (CAN) Project to its four campuses-Pili, Calabanga, Pasacao, and Sipocot- benefitting all the students, faculty members, non-teaching personnel and administration especially at this time of the implementation of flexible learning system.
Commission on Higher Education (CHED) granted CBSUA P25, 000, 000.00 in support of the SMART Campus. The University thru the President extends its heartfelt gratitude and appreciation of CHED Chair, Dr. J. Prospero De Vera and CHED Commissioner and CBSUA BOR Chair, Dr. Aldrin A. Darilag for their unabated trust and confidence to the institution.
The CAN project will lead to make the University a SMART Campus that will provide the students with a true home-away-from home connectivity experience making connectivity everywhere and anywhere. Moreover, virtual learning is optimally explored in all its features and capacities. With the Campus Area Network, sharing of computer resources, data, research work, information, private network within an organization can be possible especially under the flexible mode of teaching and learning. Since sharing of resources occurs, there may not be a need to install software on all the computers; hence, students and faculty can access and use software through the network. Such services are provided by servers placed in the network.
The said project coincides with the Memorandum of Agreement Signing on 24 June 2021 of chosen Universities to implement the said project.
With the current complex disruption in Higher Education landscape, a SMART Campus plays a role in transforming the lives it touches in the sectors of agriculture and education as it can speed up delivery of related services to the students, teachers, farmers, and farming families. Having this CAN Project, the University will enable a digitally connected institution that can enhance the teaching-learning experience, drive operational efficiency, and make higher education inclusive and accessible to all. This would further serve as a gateway for the University to seek more opportunities and partnerships with local and international Higher Education Institutions and financial institutions to enhance resource generation capability of the University.
This project is led by Prof. Vladimir Foronda and Dr. Emerson L. Bergonio under the overall supervision of CBSUA’s President, Dr. Alberto N. Naperi.
