The College of Development Education, led by Dr. Raquel Reapor, demonstrated its exceptional talent and academic prowess by participating in the highly anticipated 2023 Bicol Regional Student Teachers’ Congress. The event, which took place on May 25, 2023, in the Legazpi City Convention Center, brought together schools from across the region to commemorate the accomplishments of student teachers. The congress provided a platform for knowledge sharing and the recognition of outstanding students through a series of presentations and discussions led by esteemed figures in academia.
Distinguished personalities, including Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin D. Nebres III, President of Bicol University, and Dr. Carl Balita, CEO of the CBRC review center and one of the event sponsors, graced the occasion with their presence.
One of the highlights of the event was the research competition, which saw the participation of numerous schools. Representing CDE was Mr. John Lloyd Casin, a 4th-year BEED student, who made an indelible mark by securing the second spot. Casin’s achievement marked a significant milestone for CDE as it marked the college’s first-ever presence in the final stage of the research competition. Casin impressed the judges and audience alike with a comprehensive discussion of his study, which took place on May 19, 2023, at Bicol University College of Education.
In addition to the research competition, the congress also featured the prestigious Search for Ten Outstanding Student Teachers (TOST). CDE was represented by Mr. Christian B. Vargas, another 4th-year BEED student, who secured third place in the Elementary Category. Vargas distinguished himself through his exceptional demonstration teaching and interview, which took place on May 17, 2023, at Bicol University College of Education.
The accomplishments of Casin and Vargas can be attributed, in part, to the invaluable guidance and mentorship provided by their coaches from CDE. Professor Cherry Love Montales served as the coach for Mr. Casin, while Professor Kennedy Beltran and Professor Mary Grace Polvoriza guided Mr. Vargas throughout the competition.
The participation of CDE in the 2023 Bicol Regional Student Teachersβ Congress has not only brought recognition to the college but has also showcased the caliber of talent and academic excellence within its ranks. By nurturing aspiring educators and providing them with the necessary support and guidance, CDE continues to shape the future of education in the region.
