The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) and Ms. Mary Myka Paumba, Program Assistant for Education of the US Peace Corps, visited the university on June 26, 2025, to conduct site visits and meet with identified host families.
Arriving at CBSUA Pili Campus in the morning, Ms. Paumba was welcomed and accompanied by Dr. Cherry Love B. Montales, Director of the International Relations Office. Together, they conducted home visits to the residences of identified host families in both Pili and Calabanga campuses. During the visit to Calabanga, they were joined by Sir Noel Celeste, who provided assistance and local coordination.
The purpose of the visit was to orient the families on the expectations of the Peace Corps and to assess the readiness of the homes to accommodate a volunteer. The orientation included a discussion on the role of host families, and the values of the Peace Corps program, which aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Educationโensuring inclusive and equitable education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
The deployment of a Peace Corps Volunteer at CBSUA Laboratory High School would be a valuable support to its teacher education programs, particularly in strengthening English instruction and promoting intercultural learning. Dr. Montales expressed gratitude for the continued collaboration, emphasizing that the visit marks another step in advancing the universityโs internationalization engagement efforts.
