The Department of Trade and Industry, through the Negosyo Center Calabanga, in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Calabanga and Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, successfully conducted a Skills Training on Crab Paste Processing on May 22, 2025, at Calabanga, Camarines Sur.

The training aimed to enhance the technical skills of 30 crab meat pickers and food processors who are members of the Sta. Rosa de Lima โ€œ23โ€ SLP Association from Bonot, Calabanga. These participants are beneficiaries of the Department of Social Welfare and Developmentโ€™s Sustainable Livelihood Program, which supports marginalized households and communities through viable economic interventions.

This initiative is part of the continuing efforts of the said government agencies to promote local enterprise development and improve the quality and marketability of processed food products in the community.

Associate Prof. Rocelyn M. Imperial of the CBSUA Department of Food and Technology served as the resource person for the training. Prof. Imperial guided the participants through the step-by-step process of producing spicy and plain varieties of crab paste. She also shared practical knowledge and expert insights that may improve their techniques in food processing and product packaging.

Through the collaborative efforts of DTI, LGU Calabanga, CBSUA, and DSWD, the training showcased a shared commitment to uplifting local livelihoods through food processing innovations.
