DIP LAB HOSTS POLICY ANALYSIS TRAINING FOR BICOL RESEARCHERS

The University of the Philippines Development Innovations and Policy Laboratory (DIP Lab), in collaboration with the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) and the Bicol Consortium for Agricultural, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Development (BCAARRD), successfully conducted a four-day mentoring program on Policy Analysis and Research Proposal Development for Bicolano researchers on January 13 to 16, 2025.

The event, held at the CBSUA Pili Campus, brought together a total of 28 participants from CBSUA, Partido State University (ParSU), Sorsogon State University (SorSU), Camarines Norte State College (CNSC), Bicol University (BU), and the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA).

The face-to-face training focused on critical areas such as problem identification, developing policy alternatives, and data analysis. These sessions were designed to help researchers craft concept notes that will serve as the foundation for policy research.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Albert N. Naperi, President of CBSUA, emphasized the significance of the program in strengthening collaborative efforts and fostering partnerships, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

Ms. Maria Luz Malabayabas, DIP Lab Project Leader, stressed the value of the collaboration between UP DIP Lab, CBSUA, and BCAARRD. She highlighted how this partnership highlights the importance of multi-sector collaboration in addressing the pressing challenges facing the Agricultural, Aquatic, and Natural Resources (AANR) sectors.

The four-day training session marks the beginning of a comprehensive mentoring program that will continue through May 2025 and will further enhance participants’ skills in policy analysis and research proposal development, ultimately preparing them for potential funding opportunities.
