In a bid to gain insights into profitable agricultural ventures, 33 Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship students majoring in Agricultural Enterprise from Camarines Norte State College–Entienza Campus visited the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) on April 30, 2025, for a benchmarking activity.
Accompanied by their supervising faculty, Mr. Jesus B. Roncesvalles, Jr., the group began the activity with a courtesy call to the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA). They were warmly welcomed by Dr. Emerson L. Bergonio, Vice President for Academic Affairs, who expressed his hopes that CBSUA would be able to meet the objectives of their academic visit.
The tour began at the Regional Apiculture Center (RAC), where Director Ms. Lilia Pasiona introduced the students to the world of stingless bees. She emphasized the ecological importance and human benefits of these bees and showcased various by-products developed by the center, including soap, lip balm, throat spray, and serum. Ms. Pasiona also discussed the commercial potential of these products, highlighting their profitability and market viability.
Next, the group explored the Organic Agriculture Center, where they were toured around the site by the farm manager. Students observed how various crops are cultivated organically and learned about sustainable farming practices.
Following this, the students proceeded to the CBSUA Agriville and Learning Hub, where they were given a comprehensive orientation by farm manager Mr. Francis Leo Loberanes and Project Development Officer III, Mr. Buster Ibarbia. The orientation covered the site’s purpose, key facilities, and areas.
The benchmarking activity concluded with a visit to the animal production site, where the students observed different livestock operations. They toured facilities for poultry as well as areas housing small and large ruminants, gaining valuable insights into animal husbandry and livestock management.
Through this hands-on experience, CNSC students were exposed to practical models of agricultural enterprise, contributing to their knowledge and future endeavors in agripreneurship.
Before departing, Mr. Roncesvalles also paid a courtesy visit to CBSUA President Dr. Alberto Naperi, extending gratitude for the warm accommodation and expressing hopes for future academic linkages between the two institutions.
