Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) students dominated the PAEStigan XI competition held at UP Los Baños, Laguna from February 7-9, 2025. The Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (DABE) students took home championships in the National Quiz Contest, Tractor Rodeo, and 3-Point Hitching Challenge.
The three-day event, themed “ABE in Action: Gearing Up Farmers and Fisherfolk toward Enhanced Productivity through Regenerative Agriculture,” brought together top Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE) students from universities and colleges nationwide.
For an unprecedented fifth time, CBSUA emerged victorious in the PAEStigan XI: The State Colleges and Universities National PAES Quiz Contest. The winning team, composed of Juville M. Visario, Mae Kinly Quintana, and Kyla T. Villagracia, cemented CBSUA’s position as a powerhouse in the competition.
PAEStigan, a national quiz focused on Philippine Agricultural Engineering Standards (PAES), is organized by the UP Society of Agricultural Engineering Students (UP SAGES). Since its inception in 2011, CBSUA has won the championship five times, making it the most successful State University or College (SUC) in PAEStigan history and the only SUC with multiple first-place finishes.
This year, 33 teams representing 19 SUCs competed for the title. The CBSUA team received a trophy, certificates, and a ₱50,000 cash prize. Juville M. Visario also won the “PinakaAEStig Award” for the highest individual score. The team was coached by Engr. Monica A. Filio, a DABE faculty member and PAEStigan alumna.
CBSUA’s success extended beyond the quiz contest. Francis James A. Bandola and Angelbert A. Ayo won first place in the Tractor Rodeo and 3-Point Hitching Challenge. Other notable achievements include Gwendolyn Ricafort’s fourth-place finish in the Machine Parts Identification Challenge and Yoly Christ Paz’s eleventh-place finish in the CAD Challenge. These students were coached by Engr. Lynet C. Alto.
