As part of a leading community, the Research and Innovation Cluster of CBSUA conducted a Joint Orientation and Awareness Caravan at the Lecture Hall, CBSUA Pasacao Campus on April 8, 2025. The event was to inform all faculty researchers and other stakeholders in Pasacao Campus about the latest protocols and policies provided by the Research Services Division (RSD), Animal Care and Use Committee (ACUC), Extension Services Division (ESD), Knowledge Management Center (KMC), Intellectual Property Management Office (IPMO), and Technology Commercialization and Promotion Division (TCPD).
Dr. Ramona Isabel S. Ramirez, Vice President for Research and Innovation, spearheaded the event to strengthen the collaboration and promote sustainability in research practices, which contribute meaningfully to achieving the agricultural global standards.
Meanwhile, Dr. Marie Rachelle Jane Mangading, ACUC Head, presented the ethical standards and proper use of animals in research studies. She assured that her office is open and ready to provide support to all who wish to conduct studies related to animals while upholding the University’s highest ethical considerations.
In terms of Research Services, Dr. Lea Rose Credo, together with other research coordinators, emphasized the functions and crucial roles of RSD in promoting the sustainable use of University resources that addressed the needs of today’s society. They proposed LABCO- the Laboratory for Collaboration as a platform for interdisciplinary writeshops and capacity building activities that will end up partnership with different sectors and formulate policies that speak to the needs of the University.
For community development, Prof. Vladimir Forondo, Director of ESD, along with his team, underscored the goal of extension services which aims to empower underserved communities and other stakeholders by improving their productivity, profitability, equity and quality of life. The extension programs are guided well by the C2L2 (Community-centered Learning Laboratories) Framework, which supports the continuous revision and improvement of action plans in line with community needs.
Concerning protecting the Intellectual Property (IP) of CBSUA, Engr. Monica A. Filio, IPMO Director, reiterates the CBSUA IP Policies covering patents, utility models, industrial design, trademarks, copyright and related rights, layout designs and any other emerging IPs. She encouraged the faculty and staff to properly register their work to ensure credit is duly given and reserves the exclusive right of scientists, inventors, artists, and other gifted CBSUA personnel. The IPMO also reminds the public that all stakeholders should adhere to the standardized rules and regulations in the proper use of the CBSUA Seal since it is a registered trademark that no person or group is allowed to use the seal without consent and prior permission from the office.
In line with knowledge management, Assoc. Prof. Shela V. Ruiz presented the integrated objectives of KM to support academic excellence, research innovation, and community engagement through efficient knowledge management practices.
The TCPD, headed by Dr. Jayson Danas, also takes part in the Caravan, presenting the goals of technology development and distributed handouts containing the work procedures, manuals, and other documents related to commercialization. They introduce the processes and connection of research and the marketplace in creating innovative ideas into real-world applications. It highlights the contribution or advantages of having a commercialized technology, which encourages participants to engage in their research in commercialization.
The caravan served as an avenue for all participants, particularly for new faculty researchers eager to contribute to community development and institutional growth.
