The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) conducted a training on Vegetable Garden Basics: Site Selection and Soil Preparation in collaboration with the LGU Pili Municipal Agriculturist Office under the Organic Agriculture Program (OAP) and the BLGU Bagong Sirang, Pili, Camarines Sur, on February 22, 2025.
The training was also part of the project from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) entitled: YOUth EmpowermeNt ThrouGh InitiativeS in AgriculTural PracticEs, StRategies, and InnovationS (YOUNGSTERS) that aims to empower the youth to engage in agriculture. It also seeks to capacitate the participants on the proper site selection and the process of soil preparation.
In addition, the activity is in preparation for the full implementation of the MAO Pili banner program “Find One Commodity for Unique Specialization per Barangay (FOCUS Barangay) & Beautification Projects thru Organic Edible Landscaping” and to support the implementation of approved “CLEAN & GREEN thru Organic Farming Barangay Ordinance of Bagong Sirang, Pili, Camarines Sur.
The event was participated by the youth (students and out-of-school youth) of Barangay Bagong Sirang. Present also during the activity, from the MAO-LGU Pili Organic Agriculture Production Focal Person, Rodel M. Garbeles, from the Barangay Bagong Sirang, on behalf of the Barangay Chairman, Hon. Bernardo T. Macauyam, present is the President of the Pili Group of Organic Land tillers Active in Yards (GOLAY), Ramon Gaudiel, Bagong Sirang SK Chairman & Pili SK Federation Vice President, Lads Sentillas. Also, the faculty from CANR, Abigail V. Guinoo (proponent of the Youngsters Project), and Alvin A. Regala, who served as the resource speaker of the training.
