CBSUA HOLDS TRAINING ON PILI PROPAGATION, NURSERY ESTABLISHMENT IN CAMARINES SUR

The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) and the Department of Agriculture (DA) have successfully collaborated to enhance Pili biodiversity in Camarines Sur.

A three-day training program on Pili propagation, nursery establishment, and management was conducted from September 4 to 6, 2024, at UMA Hotel and Residences in Naga City. The event was a joint initiative of the Access Benefit-Sharing (ABS) Project of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Biodiversity Management Bureau (DENR-BMB), the United Nations Development Programme Philippines, and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

Participants from Pili cooperatives, private sector entities, and local government units from Naga City actively engaged in the training, demonstrating their commitment to sustainable Pili cultivation.

The ABS Project aims to implement the National Framework on Access and Benefit-Sharing of Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge in the Philippines. By equipping participants with knowledge and skills in Pili propagation and nursery management, the project seeks to promote sustainable cultivation practices and conserve Pili biodiversity.

The training provided participants with essential knowledge and practical skills in both sexual and asexual propagation of Pili, with hands-on demonstrations. It also offered guidance on establishing and managing Pili nurseries, ensuring sustainable cultivation practices.

Key personalities including Henry Abawag (Stakeholder Engagement and Gender Specialist from the ABS Project), Adona San Diego (ARD for Special Concern, DENR Region 5), Herleo O. Pavericio (PENRO Camarines Sur), Vladimir R. Foronda (Extension Services Division Director from CBSUA), and other esteemed resource speakers from various institutions graced the event, highlighting the importance of Pili conservation and sustainable development.| ๐˜™๐˜ฆ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ต ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ๐˜ด ๐˜ง๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ ๐˜ˆ๐˜ฃ๐˜ช๐˜จ๐˜ข๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ ๐˜. ๐˜‰๐˜ฐ๐˜ฃ๐˜ช๐˜ด, ๐˜Œ๐˜š๐˜‹ ๐˜š๐˜ต๐˜ข๐˜ง๐˜ง
